Cold climate performance of air handling units with heat exchangers – guidance for testing and presentation

The Products Steering Group and Defrostning Energy Working Group within Svensk Ventilation has produced this guidance for the testing and presentation of  Cold climate performance of air handling units with heat exchangers. The aim is to describe a method for testing and evaluating defrosting and frost protection methods for air handling units, and to define a factor for the additional heat required for frost protection and defrosting. The guidance is based on, and further develops, EN 13053:2019 Annex A and complements EN 308:2022, which lacks test methods for climates where frost can form.
